During the period of pregnancy, women need more care and love from her family members. She need proper attention both medically and by her loved ones. Ayurveda also contains various remedies and measures for the pregnant women. Garbhini Vyakaran in Ayurveda contains details of possible diseases and their treatments which are used at the time of pregnancy. It also contains various rules related to diet, activities, mental behavior and so on which are more useful at the time of pregnancy.
From the point of view of Ayurveda there are four stages of pregnancy - first stage of pregnancy is Prajayini, second stage is Upasthita Prasava, third stage known as Prajayi Syamana and last and fourth stage of pregnancy is Apara Patana.
Garbhini Paricharya (pregnancy care) in Ayurveda suggests some set of rules which are very important for every pregnant woman. It contains various details related to ahar (nutrition), vihar (life style) and vichar (thought process) which women have to follow at the different stages of pregnancy.
Ayurveda also emphasizes on child care before its conception. In Ayurveda, medicine is only recommended if there is any medical condition and it also prohibit smoking, drinking and any sexual activity during pregnancy as it can lead to fetal abnormalities.
Ayurveda also give major consideration on the women diet at the time of pregnancy. According to Ayurveda women should eat nutritional diet which is rich in six tastes. She should eat little and often near about 4-6 times per day. Food should not contain any preservatives, chemicals and should be easily digestible. Use of fluids such as milk, juices and coconut water is highly recommended.
The things which you should keep in mind at the time of pregnancy include:
- Women should avoid unhappy events during pregnancy.
- Always be neat and clean and wear loose and comfortable cloths.
- Need proper and good sleep and avoid sleeping during the day time.
- Should not bend and lift heavy things.
- Panchakarma during pregnancy is forbidden.
- Should not go for long and uncomfortable rides.
If woman suffers from constipation at the time of pregnancy then do not take medicine yourself. Go for medical advice. Use mild laxatives or oil enema. You can also take a cup of warm milk before going to bed. Ayurveda does not support any kind of medicines other than mild herbal ones.
