Gene Linked To Baldness Discovered

Now in a new study it has revealed that baldness can be genetic problem. Men could inherit this problem from his parents. In previous studies it has been found that there is strong genetic association between male pattern baldness. It means that there is a well defined pattern beginning above both temples and the maternal side of the family only.

Now a team of researchers has found a gene that combines with previous genetic abnormality and increase the risk of male pattern baldness.

A team of researchers led by King’s College London, research on more than 1,100 men and found a genetic variation on chromosome 20 that increased the risk of male pattern baldness. They also mentioned that “Until now no one could identify the gene which can cause male pattern baldness, they only know that there are lot of genes which may cause male pattern baldness”.

“If you have both the risk variants we discovered on chromosome 20 and the unrelated known variant on X-chromosome, your risk of becoming bald increases sevenfold,” co-researcher Brent Richards of McGill University said.
