At work places, people should not only use stairs to make body fit and active but also to save life. A Swiss study delivered revealed that walking upstairs and downstairs for three months without any use of lift, can raise the level of robustness. Indeed, the development in aerobic capacity was equal to a 15 percent drop in the risk of dying in advance from any consequence.
Subjects also experienced lowering in waist size, body fat, blood pressure and cholesterol which are taken as risk factors for heart disease. Philippe Meyer of the University Hospital in Geneva studied 69 employees of the university with an inactive lifestyle, which stated as less than two hours of exercise in a week and lesser than 10 flights of stairs climbed per day.
For the whole 12 weeks, they used stairs instead of elevators which results boost in fitness levels. Meyer told the European Society of Cardiology that the stair climbing at work might have higher health related problems. Though, the results of the study required to be verified in a big randomized controlled trial.
